第二十三關：古堡大門（Level23 －Citadel Gate）

第一次

Lara來到軍士（Azizus）的身邊

Azizus：What in God's name has happened here? Where are the rest of my men?

【到底發生了什麼事？我剩下的士兵都去了哪裏？】

Lara：I banged into a couple of them. They appear to have sealed off all of the exits.

【我倒是撞見了幾個。看樣子他們已經封鎖了這裏所有的出口。】

Azizus：Yes, yes. This, this is good. You must help us to. . . to. . . to. . . liberate the city.

【是的，是的，啊，這很好。你得幫助我們，幫……幫我們……解救這座城市。】

Lara：I'm just here for directions. I need a route to the Citadel.

【我來這裏是為了得到指引。我需要找到進入古城堡的路。】

Azizus：This is not so good. This is where the main activity takes place.

【這不太好辦。那東西正賴在那裏哪。】

（“This is where the main activity takes place”直譯為“那裏正是那東西的主要活動區”之類。）

Lara：Activity?

【什麼東西？】

Azizus：We encountered it as the skies began to darken. A creature from our ancient past. It tore through my men like a firestorm. I managed to station an ammunition truck before the beast had a mind to ignite the explosive devices. But with renewed vigor it forced us back. It was as if it knew of our plans.

【在天空陰沉下來時我們所遭遇的東西。是一隻遠古怪物。它的襲擊迅如風暴，我手下的士兵死傷慘重。我把一輛軍火車停在怪物前面，打算將它引爆，好除掉它。但是它迫使我們撤退，看樣子似乎覺察到了我們的計劃。】

（“It tore through my men like a firestorm”似乎是比較容易讓人誤解的一句話。因為“firestorm”中帶了一個“fire”－火，而巨龍的攻擊手段正好是噴射火球，也和火有關。所以可能會讓人覺得Azizus在説他的手下被那隻怪物的火球殺死。但是事實上“firestorm”並沒有“火球”的意思。另外我們可以看一下原文的結構——It tore through my men like a firestorm，按照它的句子結構翻譯過來就是“它像firestorm一樣撕咬了我的手下”。這樣，“firestorm”也絕對不可能是“火球”的意思。這個詞最貼切的意思應當是類似於“開火”，意指動作極為迅速。）

Lara：Beast or no beast, Sarge, I've got to get into that building.

【無論如何，長官，我得進入古城堡。】

（TombCrow認為“that building”指的就是古城堡。）

Azizus：You have spirit. Perhaps. . . . As we retreated we have mined some of the streets to prevent contamination. Two of my men are still in the area out by the northern cemetery. One of them holds the frequency for the mine detector. The other holds the second half of the code for the explosive device.

【你很堅毅。也許……我們撤退的時候在一些街道埋下了地雷，以阻擋那些怪物。我的兩個手下還在北面墓地的附近。他們一個拿着排雷器，一個擁有另一半的爆破代碼。】

（TombCrow認為Azizus説的“也許……”後面省略了“你真的可以幫我們”或者“你真的可以成功”之類的話，而不是説Lara“也許”很有毅力！）

Lara：And if I find them?

【找到他們以後呢？】

Azizus：Tell them that Azizus sent you. I heard your motorbike. Once you have the codes, take me on it to the ammunition truck. I shall eradicate the blockage. But hurry, for I am not long of this world.

【告訴他們是Azizus叫你去的。我聽到你的摩托車的聲音了。得到代碼以後，把我帶到軍火車那裏去。我得根除那個障礙。但是請你趕快，我活不了多久了。】

Lara在得到代碼和雷管之前回到Azizus處

Azizus：Your bike will need modification to clear some of the larger obstacles. Nitrous Oxide connected to the carburetor should give it extra punch. Go! Bring me the codes.

【你的車可能需要改造一下以越過更大的障礙。把一氧化二氮安上汽化器可以給它額外的動力。去吧，把代碼給我找來！】

第二十五關：街市（Level 25 – Street Bazaar）

Lara走近受傷的士兵，對方拔出槍

Lara：Put your gun away! Azizus sent me!

【把槍拿開！是Azizus叫我來的！】

士兵：Help me, Englisher. I bleed to death. I tried to hide, but those things…smell the blood on me.

【救救我，英國人。我流血太多，快不行了。我試着躲避，但是它們……能聞到我身上的血腥味。】

Lara：I’ve come for the mine frequency. I need to get back to Azizus through this rabbit warren with both my legs still intact.

【我是來找探雷器的。我可不能缺胳膊斷腿地從這個破地方回Azizus那兒去。】

（“rabbit warren”直譯為“養兔場”，引申為擁擠、破敗的地方。Lara的原話中只是説“with both my legs still intact”地回去，指的是雙腿完好，並沒有提到她的胳膊，但是TombCrow認為把它翻譯成“缺胳膊斷腿”並沒有歪曲Lara的原意，比起“雙腿完好地回去”也似乎更符合中文的表達習慣。）

士兵：I do a good job with the mines. Ahhh... Not that it does us any good. We are all dead or dying.

【那些地雷可是我的得意之作。唉……可它們沒派上一點用場！我們死的死傷的傷。】

士兵掏出探雷器

Lara：Where are the rest of you? I need those explosive codes!

【其他人都在哪裏？我需要爆破代碼！】

士兵：Sahida, my colleague lies across the roof bridge in the mosque. As we retreated, something new that we had not encountered before came from the shadows like lightning and took his head.

【我的戰友Sahida正躺在清真寺的天橋上。我們撤退的時候，遭遇了一些以前從沒見過的東西，它們從閃電般的陰影中突然出現，劈下了他的腦袋。】

Lara：The codes?

【那代碼呢？】

士兵：Inside his head! Inside the creature!

【在他的腦袋裏！在怪物身體裏！】

Lara：I need those codes!

【我需要代碼！】

士兵：Search his body. I don’t know. Leave me for now for I am weak and wish to prepare myself for my God.

【（你可以）搜一下他的屍體。我也不知道（代碼在哪裏）。現在讓我一個人安安靜靜待着吧，我太虛弱了，已經準備去見上帝了。】

第二十三關：古堡大門（Level 23 －Citadel Gate）

第二次

Lara帶着Azizus來到卡車前

Azizus：You are a strong woman.

【你真是個了不起的女人。】

Lara：Lara! And you handled yourself pretty well - Sergeant! You’ve got the codes. What now?

【我叫勞拉。你的表現也很不錯，長官！你已經得到了代碼，現在做什麼呢？】

Azizus忽然把槍口對準Lara

Azizus：After all we have been through, this is merely insurance.

【我們已經經歷這麼多了，我現在這麼做只是為了保險起見。】

Lara：Against what?

【為什麼？有什麼危險？】

Azizus：Against you trying to stop me from doing my duty. Somebody needs to drive that truck in there.

【你阻止我完成任務的危險。要知道總得有人把卡車開過去。】

Lara：Kamikaze....

【神風隊員……】

（“Kamikaze”一看就知道是個外來詞了。這是二戰時期日本空軍敢死隊“神風隊”的音譯。為了完成任務不惜犧牲生命的戰士的代名詞）

Azizus：Whatever it takes for god and my country.

【為了上帝還有我的祖國。】

Azizus上了卡車

Azizus：In the next life then, my friend.

【下輩子再見吧，我的朋友。】

第二十六關：古城堡（Level 26－Cidadel）

Lara進入古堡，給Jean解開繩子

Jean：Thank God you made it! Von Croy. . . I saw it myself. I would not have believed such a thing. He is possessed of Seth!

【謝天謝地，你終於來了！Von Croy……我看到了。真不敢相信，他被賽特的魔力控制了。】

（這裏Jean説“Von Croy. . . I saw it”，用了“it”－“它”，而不是“him”－“他”。我們可以把這理解為由於Von Croy已經成為賽特的化身，Jean已經不再認為這傢伙還算人類了，因此用了“it”來指代Von Croy。或者説Jean在這裏有意避開了直接提及Von Croy，而是委婉地説“我看到了這件事”，“it”指的不是Von Croy，而是代指Von Croy被賽特附身一事。而原因也是在於他不知道現在該如何稱呼Von Croy。TombCrow更傾向於後一種解釋。因為Jean緊接着又説了一句“I would not have believed such a thing”，把“such a thing”和前面那句話中的“it”聯繫起來看，當然是後一種解釋更為順暢。）

Lara：Get out of here, Jean. I have a feeling that things may turn nasty.

【快離開這裏吧，Jean，這兒越來越危險了。】

Jean：He is digging under the Citadel into the Crusaders' vaults in search of the ceremonial tablet. The tablet which contains Seth's binding incantations. Be careful, Lara. I fear there are things in the vaults man was not meant to see.

【他在古堡下挖掘十字軍拱頂，試圖找到儀式石板。石板上記錄了囚禁賽特的咒語。要小心，Lara，恐怕那個拱頂裏會有一些讓人（man）不願意看到的東西。】

Lara：I am not a man, Jean, and I am always very, very careful.

【我不是“男人（man）”，Jean。還有，我總是非常，非常小心的。】

（Lara説“I am not a man”，和下一句“I am always very, very careful”沒有任何的關係，而是承接Jean的話“man was not meant to see”的。Jean的那句話中“man”的意思當然是指“人”，而Lara則巧妙地故意把它曲解為“男人”——因為這兩個意思是同一個詞：“man”。）

古堡下，Von Croy找到了石板

Von Croy：We have it. The ancient Ceremonial tablet. Take it and prepare it. . . and see if the Croft woman has arrived with our armor.

【我們找到它了。遠古的儀式石碑。拿好了……去看看Croft那個女人是不是帶着我們的鎧甲來了。】

本關結束，Von Croy陰沉地召喚Lara

Von Croy：Come in, Lara. I have been expecting you. Come to me, child. Do not fear your old colleague. I merely require the armor that you hold in your possession.

【進來呀，Lara。我在等你。到這裏來，孩子。不要害怕你的老朋友。我只是需要你得到的鎧甲。】

Lara：And in return. . . ?

【你用什麼交換呢？】

Von Croy：I will grant you vigor as those around you fall. You shall command the ultimate power: that of life or death over those you choose at your side. And in return they will bow at your feet and give worship.

【我賜予你無上的榮耀，周圍的芸芸眾生都會拜倒在你的腳下。你將執掌最高權力：隨心所欲決定人們的生死。因此他們都會對你頂禮膜拜，無限崇敬。】

Lara：Got my fair share of that already. And besides. . . give a jackal your hand and he'll bite off the whole arm.

【我已經得到了我所應得的一切。另外……把一隻手伸給豺狼的話，它會咬掉你整個胳膊。】

（“my fair share”是個讓TombCrow很是頭疼的表達方式。經加納同學Irene的解釋，當一個人説起“my fair share”的時候，通常就是要求自己應得的那一半。換句話説，意思就是當前的瓜分方式是不公平的，“我理應得到我所應得的份額”。這樣一來Lara的話就不難理解了。注意台詞中“Got my fair share”前面顯然是省略了“I've”，這句話的完整意思應當是“我已經得到了我所應得的份額”。聯繫上下文，Lara的言下之意就是説她一無所求，對Von Croy的交換條件完全不感興趣。

至於後面那句，“give a jackal your hand”的意思應當是把手伸給豺狼。根據TombCrow的理解，向對方伸手應該是與對方和解或者結盟的友好表示。而豺狼對此的反應則是咬掉對方的整個手臂。因此，永遠都不必幻想與豺狼之流和平共處，否則只會引狼入室，惹禍上身。豺狼當然是惡的象徵，這裏指賽特，或者説Von Croy。因此，TombCrow認為Lara的這句話所要表達的就是她永遠都不會與賽特或Von Croy結盟的決心。）

Lara取走護身符，將Von Croy（或者説賽特）關在了門裏，裏面傳來豺狼的咆哮聲

Lara：Barking mad.

【叫得真難聽。】
